What is telehealth?
Telehealth utilizes video and audio platforms to connect patients with a physical therapist for treatment of a variety of musculoskeletal, vestibular, cardiac, and pulmonary conditions. Telehealth therapy allows you to receive the same expertise, care, and advice that you would in the clinic, but from the safety and comfort of your home. You can access the telehealth session using a Mac, PC, and every type of tablet and smartphone.
How it works:
During a virtual visit, a therapist will be able to provide you with professional consultation. A therapist will provide a virtual examination and appropriate interventions. We can monitor vitals in real time (if you have a pulse oximeter and blood pressure cuff at home) and make appropriate adaptations to exercises. In addition, a written home exercise program will be provided for “homework”.
Why it is important:
For current patients, telehealth is a way to maintain the gains you have made in therapy, and to continue to make progress toward your goals. For new patients, telehealth allows you to get started right away. The old motto still applies; “move it or lose it”. Although manual therapy is important, exercise and movement are essential in restoring function. Telehealth visits may also give the therapist insight into your home environment, allowing them to make tailored suggestions on exercises or home modifications.
